Curriculum

Cross Keys Learning has two academic phases.

  • The Lower Phase covers years 7-8 and this timetables focuses a broad range of academic subjects as well as personal development. There is a strong emphasis on students developing their reading ability and the timetable enables targeted individual interventions to take place as required.
  • The Upper Phase covers years 9-11 and as well as academic subjects and personal development students study vocational subjects including: Hospitality & catering, Horticulture and Business & Enterprise.

Students can work towards the following qualifications:

  • GCSE Maths & English
  • Functional Skills English, Maths & ICT
  • Open Awards Enterprise, Catering & Hospitality, Horticulture, Science
  • BTEC Business Studies, Home Cooking Skills

Curriculum Aims

Our curriculum will:

  • Set students realistic but ambitious targets so that they can all successfully achieve their full potential and are clear on how to succeed; it will be age and ability appropriate.
  • Be mindful of the individual needs of our students and cater for any requirements set out in EHC plans and desired educational outcomes.
  • Enable all students to access and pursue a range of subjects, regardless of ability, to ensure a broad and balanced curriculum. We do not dumb down the Curriculum offer and balance an ambitious academic curriculum alongside personal development.
  • Coherently build upon prior knowledge, embed, and interleave knowledge and skills so that students know more and remember more, continuously building upon their successes.
  • Develop numeracy and literacy skills throughout the curriculum.
  • Ensure opportunities to develop social, moral, spiritual and cultural opportunities for learning are embedded across all subjects.
  • Promote fundamental British values and mutual respect.
  • Recognise the importance of personal, social, emotional development.
  • Energise students and develop a love for learning.
