About Cross Keys Learning

Founded in September 2018, Cross Keys Learning became an Independent Special School, following the successful placements of learners with SEN needs and EHCP’s within the KMS tuition service.

Starting with ten students during its first academic year, the school increased its roll to fifteen in March 2020 and to twenty seven in September 2021.

Cross Keys Learning are registered to provide education for KS3 and KS4 learners (11-17 years). Our provision is designed to offer learning within small groups (5-7 per group), offering a broad and balanced alternative curriculum with a choice of pathways for KS4 learners. Although we can support pupils with a wide range of needs, our curriculum and provision are designed to support learners:

  • with ASD/ Social & Communication difficulties
  • who have been unable to manage a mainstream environment due to high levels of anxiety or school refusal
  • who require an alternative curriculum/ pathway as their cognitive ability or school experiences have resulted in them being significantly behind ARE (age related expectations).
  • who may have low self-esteem and confidence

Ethos

Our aim is for young people to develop a passion for learning and a level of independence which will prepare them for lifelong learning.

We offer a very supportive educational environment that is safe and flexible yet focused on accumulating academic and practical skills.

We have a highly skilled and experienced team that can provide support for each young person's individual needs enabling access to education and nurturing self-motivation. We provide a relaxed and friendly environment that has disciplined and clear boundaries.

We have a balanced and holistic approach to learning; our aim is to enable young people to think for themselves and motivate themselves. We believe in encouraging pupils to 'take ownership' of their studies by following active and varied learning experiences which will enable them to achieve success.

Building relationships is key for Cross Keys Learning, and all staff and management work together to create a friendly and caring environment that supports student’s in their day to day studies.

Students that have missed key areas of educational development will find opportunities to build and develop confidence educationally, emotionally and socially, because we have learnt that approaching education in varied and interesting way can inspire students to learn.
