Attendance

Children with good attendance generally achieve more and are happier at school. Good attendance increases a child's academic success and improves their chances in life opportunities.

We recognise that on occasion exceptional circumstances mean that a student may need to be absent from school.

Please report any absence on the first and subsequent days of absence by calling 01843 602856 or 07884 147684 by 8am.

Why is School Attendance Important?

Regular attendance at school is vital for the educational and social development of young people. Research shows a clear link between good attendance and educational progress and attainment. It also helps in the development of social skills and the building of good habits that are essential for adult life. It is important for parents/carers and the school team to work in partnership to ensure that all children have full and equal access to all that the school has to offer.

We encourage you to support and nurture the regular attendance of your child, as it lays the vital foundations for their future. We believe that with your collaboration, we can make education a success for all students.

What is the Expected Attendance for School Children?

We wanted to share with you the importance of regular attendance at Cross Keys Learning. The government expects pupils to attend at least 96% of the school year, and we strive for at least 97% across all our classes.

Attendance is crucial to their academic success and personal growth. If their level of absence concerns us or falls below 95%, we may need to offer support to improve their attendance. We believe that working together, we can ensure they have the best opportunities to grow and succeed.

An attendance figure of 90% is equivalent to a half-day absence every week. If your child is persistently absent, we may need to take further steps, such as sending a letter, inviting you to an attendance meeting, or even conducting a home visit.

We value your partnership and encourage you to reach out if you have any concerns or if there are circumstances impacting their attendance that we should be aware of.

Missed Days at School Add Up!

We believe that every day at school counts and that good attendance is crucial for your child's academic progress and attainment. Here are some ways you can support good attendance in school:

  • Plan trips during school holidays rather than term time to avoid disrupting your child's learning.
  • Encourage your child to attend school even if they have a minor ailment, as missing school can lead to gaps in their education.
  • Ensure your child arrives at school on time to avoid being marked as late, which can impact their attendance record.
  • Help your child understand the importance of good attendance and the impact it has on their learning and future opportunities.
  • If your child is absent, try to figure out the reasons behind it, as this can provide insights into any barriers they may be facing in attending school.
  • Establish a good routine early on to develop healthy habits such as getting plenty of sleep and being prepared for the school day.
  • Schedule health appointments outside of school hours or during holidays whenever possible to minimise absences.
  • Show interest in your child's learning, offer support with homework, and attend parents' evenings to discuss their progress.

By working together to prioritise good attendance, we can ensure that your child has the best chance to succeed in their education.
